Russia-Ukraine war started back in February 2022, when the Russian army invaded Ukraine, marking the deadliest conflict in Europe since the second world war. However, as the war progresses, the support for Ukraine seems to be diminishing. Western leaders are hesitant to provide aid to Ukraine. The United States has been one of the major aid provider to Ukraine, providing $64 Billion dollars of military aid to Ukraine ever since the launch of full scale Russian invasion back in February, 2022.
However, the Biden administration was criticized by the Republicans for providing billions of dollars of aid to Ukraine instead of focusing on the American people. The Republican controlled House approved the last Ukrainian aid back in April, eight months after President Joe Biden asked for aid to be approved. However, the aid was passed with more support from Democrats as compared to Republicans.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was one of the first leaders to congratulate former president Donald Trump on winning the 2024 United States presidential elections. “I had an excellent call with President @realDonaldTrump and congratulated him on his historic landslide victory—his tremendous campaign made this result possible. I praised his family and team for their great work. We agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation. Strong and unwavering U.S. leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace”, said Zelensky on X. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has consistently expressed hope for the same level of support from a potential Trump administration as he’s received from the Biden administration.
However, former president Donald Trump has been faultfinding of Biden’s continuous support of Ukraine. The support for Ukraine under the Republican controlled White House, Senate and possibly house has become a concerning point. Due to this, the Biden administration is planning on to provide billions of dollars of aid to Ukraine as quickly as possible before former president Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20th January.
