The film was announced in December 2019. Principal photography began in January 2021 and wrapped in August 2022. TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAAKKAR is scheduled for theatrical release on 8 March 2023, coinciding with the Holi weekend.

PREMISE

A young couple vow revenge against each other after faking a relationship

The film was officially announced as an untitled romantic comedy on 20 December 2019. The first release date of the film was set to be on 26 March 2021.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was shifted to 18 March 2022.Yet again, due to the delay in filming, the release date was shifted to Republic Day, 26 January 2023.The final release date was decided to be on 8 March 2023, concurring with the Holi festival. 

CASTING

Shradhaa kapoor and Ranbir kapoor were cast as the leads, marking their first project together.Dimple kapadia and Boney kapoor  were cast as Ranbir’s parents.The film marks the latter’s acting debut. It will also mark the acting debut of stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi and the Hindi film debut of actress Monica Chaudhary and  Hasleen Kaur confirmed her presence in January 2023.

FILMING 

Filming began on 8 January 2021 in Ghaziabad with Ranbir and Shraddha.  In July 2021, the second schedule of the film commenced in Delhi. The third schedule began in August 2021 in Mumbai, followed by another schedule in November 2021 in Delhi. The next schedule again took place in Mumbai in March 2022. 

The overseas schedule of the film commenced in June in Spain. That month, a video of Shraddha and Ranbir Kapoor filming a song in Spain was leaked on the internet. The next schedule took place in Mauritius during which pictures of Shraddha Kapoor filming in a beach were leaked on the internet. 

In May 2022, it was reported that crew members protested due to non-payment of dues. Ranjan denied the allegations.

In July 2022, a song featuring Shraddha Kapoor was to be shot, but production was stalled when a fire broke out at the film’s set in Chitrakoot Grounds, Andheri. It led to the death of a crew member named Manish Devashi, while another man from the lighting department was injured. The song was shot after a few days. The film was wrapped up in August 2022.

The film is scheduled for release by Yash Raj Films on 8 March 2023, coinciding with the Holi festival.

The digital rights of the film were acquired by NETFLIX , for post theatrical streaming.
