The NIA received an email claiming that a person linked to Taliban will carry out an ‘attack’ in Mumbai. The email’s author claimed to be a member of the Taliban, which is directed by the radical Sirajuddin Haqqani, and that he will soon carry out a terrorist act at Haqqani’s command.
The email that the NIA received said, “Not received any reply from you yet I want to inform you that this Talibani individual is getting all the instructions directly from Sirajuddin Haqqani.” The case is also being looked into by the Maharashtra ATS.
According to authorities, the criminal branch has discovered that the email was sent from a mobile phone with a Pakistani phone number, and Karachi was also revealed to be the IP address of the email. A top Mumbai police officer stated that “several agencies are looking into the threat,” that “security has been strengthened,” and that “all police stations have been directed to conduct search operations in respective districts.”
After receiving an email warning of a terrorist attack on Thursday, the National Investigation Agency increased security in Mumbai (NIA). Mumbai Crime Branch has been instructed to look into the situation after the Mumbai police received a threat notification from the NIA.
This has prompted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to put several cities in Maharashtra on alert. The Mumbai police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have launched an investigation to find out the truth behind the mail. Although the police suspect it might be mischief, they are taking no chances and are treating the matter seriously.
Last month, a similar call informing about the bombs planted in various parts of the city was received and the NIA had arrested Salim Qureshi alias ‘Salim Fruit’, a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang for allegedly aiding the gang’s terrorist activities in Mumbai. As such, the police are actively working on the case to ensure the safety of the public and to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
