A special flight carrying students from Maharashtra who were stranded in violence-hit Manipur, have arrived at Mumbai airport on Monday evening. The flight was arranged by the Maharashtra state government to evacuate the students stranded in Manipur due to ethnic clashes that have claimed over 52 lives since May 3.
25 students from Maharashtra stranded in Manipur arrived at Mumbai airport tonight by special flight. All the students thanked the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on the occasion for their safe return to Maharashtra. The students were brought from Imphal in Manipur to Guwahati in Assam and from there to Mumbai in a special flight.
These students were contacted on Sunday and interrogated over the phone by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also gave them the assurance that they would be moved to a safe location right away.
After arrival at Mumbai Airport, Joint Secretary of Royal Etiquette Department Ramchandra Dhanawade and Abdul Aziz Baig welcomed the students on behalf of the government.

The death toll in Manipur has raised to 60 and total 1,700 houses have been burnt. Few days ago, Indian athlete Mary Kom requested government of India to take action. “My state Manipur is burning, kindly help” tweeted Mary Kom. “I am not feeling good about the situation In Manipur. Since last night the situation has deteriorated. I appeal State & Central Government to take steps for the situation & maintain peace & security in the state. It is unfortunate that some people lost their family members in this violence. This situation must get normal at the earliest” said Mary Kom to ANI.
