A large portion of the country’s gross domestic product (16%) and employment (49%), according to the most current Economic Survey report, is still attributed to agriculture. Ironically, the Indian farmer is currently entangled in a web of even more pressing problems. The average agribusiness household earns Rs. 77,112 per annum, or 6,426 rupees per month, according to the NSSO data. Inflation, farmer suffering, and greater political and societal discontent can result from poor agricultural performance, which in turn can hinder the economy from the perspective of smallholder farmers’ livelihoods. Industry must also shoulder the burden of empowering farmers, even though the government has taken multiple steps to increase farmers’ income by a factor of two.
A diverse agribusiness focused on research and development, Godrej Agrovet is committed to the welfare of Indian farmers and has launched a number of initiatives to help them increase their crop and animal production in a sustainable way.
Provivi, a global leader in pheromone-based crop protection, and Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a leading Indian food and agribusiness conglomerate focused on R&D, today announced a strategic partnership to deliver long-term pest control solutions tailored to India’s critical rice and corn farmers.
Note: The objective of this collaboration is to confront the substantial obstacles presented by the Yellow Stem Borer (YSB) in rice and the Fall Armyworm (FAW) in maize. Provivi’s YSB Eco-Dispenser and FAW Eco-Dispenser, innovative pheromone-based technologies, will be introduced by GAVL. These technologies are intended to effectively and sustainably control these pests. |
Under this agreement, GAVL will introduce sustainable solutions in India. The company will market Provivi’s YSB Eco-Dispenser, which is specifically developed to manage Yellow Stem Borer (YSB) in rice, and will have exclusive commercialization rights to the FAW Eco-Dispenser, which targets Fall Armyworm (FAW) in corn in India. These pheromone-based solutions will deliver modern, environmentally friendly pest management tools to Indian farmers, helping to sustain the livelihoods of millions of rice and maize growers.
Balram Singh Yadav, the Managing Director of GAVL, underscored the significance of offering farmers innovative solutions to address the escalating insect challenges that are a result of climate change. He stated that the partnership with Provivi is consistent with GAVL’s dedication to the promotion of sustainable agriculture and the support of producers.
Corey Huck, CEO of Provivi, emphasized the importance of this partnership in extending the company’s presence in the swiftly expanding agricultural market of India. He underscored the organization’s commitment to offering producers pest control solutions that are both more sustainable and safer.
“Yellow stem borer and fall armyworm continue to pose significant threats to rice and corn crops, driving up production costs for farmers,” added Rajavelu NK, CEO, Crop Protection Business, GAVL. In light of the current agricultural landscape’s need for sustainable solutions, we are thrilled to collaborate with Provivi to provide farmers with cutting-edge, environmentally responsible instruments to control these two significant pests. The goal of our collaborative Integrated Pest Management activities is to safeguard rice and maize farming by offering sustainable, eco-friendly solutions.
“This collaboration enables Provivi to increase our influence in one of the fastest-growing agricultural markets globally,” stated Provivi CEO Corey Huck. “Our objective is to collaborate with reliable partners like Godrej Agrovet to offer farmers safer, scientifically based pest control solutions that promote environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity.”
Biodegradable materials were used in the development of the Provivi YSB and FAW Eco-Dispensers, guaranteeing long-lasting effectiveness while reducing environmental impact. In 2029, Indian farmers will be able to purchase these goods.
This partnership between Provivi and Godrej Agrovet represents a crucial advancement in promoting sustainability within Indian agriculture, with the potential to positively impact both farmers and the environment.
