This story of Hanuman and Bali is mentioned in the Kishkindhakand of the epic Ramayana. About which a lot of work has been written.
Kishkindha King Vanararaj Bali, the son of Riksharaj, had received a miraculous necklace from his godfather Indrandev. There is mention in Puranas about that golden necklace.
That necklace was given to Indrandev by Brahmadev himself after proving it with mantras. If someone enters the battlefield wearing this, then half of the power of any opponent who comes in front of him gets reduced and merges into the living being wearing the necklace. Bali was already strong, the defeat given by father Indradev made Bali more strong and Ajay. Bali had defeated many great kings, asuras and demons of the earth.
He had become arrogant and mischievous due to the repeated victories he got.
One day in his own fun Chur Bali went to Van Vihar. In the display of his power, Bali started uprooting the trees of the forest one by one. And at the same time he started shouting in a loud voice. Mahabali Hanuman, the supreme power source, was sitting under a tree in the same forest meditating on Ram.
Bajrangbali's meditation on Ram was disrupted due to Bali's roaring and uprooting of trees. Hanuman ji broke his seat and got up. And explained to Bali. O Vanraj Bali, the whole world knows your strength and bravery. So please do not disturb the peace of this forest and do not disturb the meditation of my Lord Shri Ram.
Even after being politely explained by Hanuman ji, the arrogant Bali said bad things to Hanuman ji in reply and also challenged Lord Ram. He said whom you worship. I can defeat that Ram also in the war. Try it yourself if you want. Mahabali humble natured Hanuman ji never wanted war. But Hanuman ji did not like the fact that arrogant Bali challenged Lord Shri Ram. That's why he accepted Bali's challenge. The next day there was going to be a wrestling match between the two.
The next morning, when Hanumanji completed his worship of Ram, then Brahmadev himself appeared before Hanumanji and requested him not to fight with Bali considering him as a fool. But Bajrangbali said that he has challenged Lord Shri Ram. What will the world say if I withdraw from this war? Brahmadev knew the nature of Hanumanji very well.
Then he said O son of Anjani. You must go for this war, but take only 10th part of your immense power with you. Hanuman ji to respect the Supreme Father. kept his immense powers with him and took only 10th part of it and went to war. On the other hand, the arrogant Bali also stood to fight in the battlefield after preparing before the war. When Hanumanji for wrestling.
When he entered the field with Bali, with the boon of defeat from Brahmadev, Hanumanji's power slowly started merging with Bali and in a moment Bali started crawling on the ground. He started feeling that the nerves of his body are about to explode. Some such force is getting absorbed in the body. Which he is not fit to wear. Then his eyes fell on Hanuman ji, he was not moved by the toss. He was standing immovable like a mountain. Bali removed the necklace from his neck with trembling hands.
And fell at the feet of Hanumanji and begged for forgiveness. done by you. He was ashamed for insulting Lord Ram. Then humble Hanumanji also forgave Bali. And from there it became introspective.
So this is how Hanumanji shattered the pride of Bali.
