The International Women’s Day (IWD) marks the achievements and women’s right movement, bringing the attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. In 1975, IWD was adopted by the United Nations as an official, world-wide celebration of Women’s right and world peace. Held every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) has taken place on March 8 for over 100 years. This global occasion celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women is actually represented by three colors: Purple, Green and White where, purple signifies justice and dignity, and being loyal to the cause. Green symbolizes hope and white represents purity, albeit a controversial concept.
