Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody has been extended till April 17, 2023, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam case. Sisodia was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularities in the implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
In this case, Sisodia and several other officials are accused of allegedly causing a loss of over Rs. 100 crores to the Delhi government by awarding liquor licenses to private parties in an arbitrary manner. Sisodia was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in September 2022, and has been in judicial custody since then.
Sisodia has denied the allegations against him, and his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has called the case politically motivated. The case is still ongoing, and further developments are expected as the investigation continues.
It appears that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has moved an application in court seeking an extension of Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody, citing that the investigation is at a crucial stage.
Manish Sisodia was arrested on February 26, 2023, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy. He was reportedly interrogated for nearly eight hours before being arrested.
Subsequently, on March 9, 2023, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Sisodia from Tihar Jail, where he was being held in connection with the CBI case linked to alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.
Money laundering involves the process of concealing the proceeds of crime by converting them into legitimate assets or funds. If Sisodia is found guilty of money laundering, he could face serious legal consequences, including imprisonment and fines.
It is important to note that Sisodia has denied the allegations against him, and his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has called the cases politically motivated. As the investigation continues and more information comes to light, it will be interesting to see how the case develops and what legal actions are taken.
