Introduction
Maharashtra day is celebrated every year on 1st May to celebrate the formation of the State with enactment of the Bombay Reorganisation Act in 1960. The law came into effect on May 1st,1960 and it is Historic and Significant in the history of Maharashtra State. Earlier, the state of Maharashtra was known as the state of Bombay After major protest by Marathi speaking people for separate state this day has a special significance in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Day
Maharashtra Day or Maharashtra Diwas the state Observes 1st May as Public holiday. All major government offices, schools, colleges and all major financial market including BSE, National Stock Exchange, currency and debt markets will remain close on the account of Maharashtra Day.
1960 Act
The Bombay Reorganisation Act in 1960 bifurcated the Bombay state into two separate states namely, Gujrat and Konkani. While the Marathi and Konkani- speaking population became a part of the state of Maharashtra, the kutchi and Gujarati – speaking population became a part of the state of Gujrat.
On this momentous the people of Maharashtra State dress up in traditional attire to celebrate the culture and values on the day of the creation of their state.
Maharashtra Day is celebrated across the state with cultural events, parades and other public gatherings.
