There are a lot of movies are made in Bollywood in everyday lifestyle and every movie is verified by the censor board which is Central Board of Film Certification (CBFM). There are certain guidelines which has to be followed in order to maintain the decency and to avoid any sort of crisis.
This is the list of top 3 movies that are banned in Bollywood.
- AANDHI (1975)
This film directed by Gulzar, made in 1975 at the time of National Emergency and got banned in few months after it’s release. This film was banned on the alleged grounds of violation of the Model Election Code of Conduct, claiming it can cause damage to the reputation of the Congress party. The ban was initiated by the Election Commission but this ban lead this movie to become a national interest topic. After Indira Gandhi’s defeat in the 1977 national elections, the ruling Janta Party cleared it and had it premiered on the state-run television channel. It proved to be an important film in the career of Sen, and also her last Hindi film, as she retired from films altogether in 1978. At the 23rd Filmfare Awards, she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress, while Sanjeev Kumar won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The film itself won the Filmfare Award for the Best Film (Critics).
2.THE PINK MIRROR (2004)
There are a lot of films based on LGBTQ community nowadays and people are more accepting than earlier. The film got banned as the film explores the taboo subject of transsexuals in India which is still much misunderstood and ridiculed. In 2003, the Central Board of Film Certification, the Indian Censor Board, banned Rangayan’s film on Indian transsexuals. The censor board cited that the film was ‘vulgar and offensive’. It was also said that this film can also mark ways to misleading actions.
3.INDIA’S DAUGHTER (2015)
India’s Daughter is a documentary film directed by Leslee Udwin and is part of the BBC’s ongoing Storyville series. The film is based on the 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder of 23-year-old “Nirbhaya”, who was a physiotherapy student. Public interest ligitation was filed in Delhi High Court to elevate the ban, claiming that the ban on broadcasting is violating Article 19 in the Constitution of India. Since the trial of the convicts was pending in the Supreme Court of India, the petition was denied on 12th March 2015. On March 20, 2020, the Supreme Court passed an order for the death sentence to those convicts.
4.There are enormous number of films which are banned due to inappropriate and adult content, drugs and violence etc, such as the film CHATRAK, THE PAINTED HOUSE, KAMA SUTRA- A TALE OF LOVE, PAANCH, GANDU, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and etc.
