Pakistani police have issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with a case related to the purchase and sale of gifts. The warrant is non-bailable, and Khan has denied the charges, claiming that he is being targeted for “fake cases.”
On Sunday, police officers arrived at Khan’s residence in order to serve an arrest warrant and ensure his appearance in court for charges of bribery and corruption. The attempt to arrest him sparked protests by his supporters, who fear for his safety.
Khan was removed from power in April 2018 and has since been the target of multiple charges, including terrorism and corruption. He was shot in the leg during an anti-government protest convoy in November.

Officers from Islamabad arrived at Khan’s home in Lahore, which was surrounded by hundreds of his supporters, but were unable to find him.
“According to court orders, a team of Islamabad police has reached Lahore to arrest Imran Khan. All operations are being completed with the cooperation of Lahore Police. Legal action will be taken against those obstructing the execution of court orders.” Tweeted Islamabad police.
This action by Islamabad police has caused widespread protests in Pakistan. Due to this, Pakistani Government has banned TV channels from broadcasting Imran Khan’s speech.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, deputy chairman of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party said, “We have got the notice from Islamabad police, but the notice does not include any order for the arrest.” “The legal process will be followed when we confer with our attorneys.” he added.
Imran Khan, who was shot last year while participating in a rally, has made an effort to sabotage South Asian politics ever since he was ousted from government in a no-confidence vote in April.
In an effort to pressure the administration, he has been pressing for early elections with a deadline of October by staging rallies, quitting the legislature, and dissolving the two provincial assemblies his party controls.
