India is all set to welcome its first-ever Pod Taxi, connecting the Noida International Airport in Jewar and the Film City. Uttar Pradesh is the first state in India to launch the ‘Personalised Rapid Transit’. As per reports, once the government approves, the initiative is envisioned to be finalized by the end of 2024.
The project is anticipated to cost approximately 810 crore. Here’s the good news, recently, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved the bid document and the updated detailed project report (DPR) for the project.
What is a Pod Taxi?
Powered by electricity, a Pod Taxi runs on a separate guideway track to avoid busy roads. A mode of public transport with driverless technology is considered a progressive step towards advancement and technology. These automated cars run much faster and are pollution free.
It is built above the roads and run on solar power. Usually has the capacity to hold 6 people at a time, hence has better connectivity. India will soon witness a Pod Taxi after Singapore, London and many others.
As per news outlets, the first Pod Taxi in India will be having 12 stations along the route, with a speed of 40 km per hour, the entire travel will take just 20 minutes. The Jewar Airport will be connected to the Film City in Noida Sector 21.
Passing through various sectors such as Apparel Park, Handicraft Park, MSME Park in Sector 29, industrial units in Sector 32, and Toy Park in Sector 33 before its last stop at Film City in Sector 21, this service will offer a 14.6 km route.
