In South Delhi, a 25-year-old woman was brutally murdered using an iron rod on the head continuously in the daylight of Friday i.e. July 28th, 2023, at around 12 p.m. by the person who went together with her to the park near Malviya Nagar’s Aurobindo College in a posh area of South Delhi. The incident took place before 12 noon on Friday as the police received the information at around 12:08 p.m. The attacker, Irfan, was cousins with the victim. He was arrested after Delhi Police launched a probe and a murder case was filed.
After initial Investigation, it was revealed that the victim’s name was Nargis and she had been spotted in the park with a man named Irfan, who was her cousin. Police found that Nargis was attending a stenographer’s course in Malviya Nagar and had completed her studies from Kamala Nehru College earlier this year. The weapon, an iron rod was thrown beside the victim which led the police to Irfan who left the rod at the site as he escaped. The woman was found lying in a pool of blood beneath a bench, dead. The iron rod was found near the body.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, Chandan Chowdhary said, “The incident took place inside the park. The deceased is a college student. She had come to the park with her friend. There are injuries on the deceased’s head. A rod was also found near her body. We are investigating the matter.” She added, “The victim is 22 years old, and the accused, who is 28 years old, are cousins. The deceased’s family had refused the boy for marriage since he was unemployed. Subsequently, the girl stopped talking to him. The boy was mentally disturbed, and therefore he committed this crime today.”
Police officials also reported that the accused was been identified as Irfan, and he was working as a delivery boy and knew where the girl was taking her coaching classes from. Sho it was easy for him to stalk her and reach her. They also stated that the whole situation was based on the rejection of marriage proposal and love.
After Irfan was taken into custody, he revealed that he planned the murder three days ago and went to the park today knowing that Nargis would cross it while returning from her stenography class. As she was passing by the park around noon, Irfan called her in and said he wanted to speak to her. When she refused, he pulled out an iron rod from his bag and attacked her with it, as said by police officials.
The chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, took note of today’s incident as well as the murder of a woman in Delhi’s Dabri area last night and asked how many deaths it would take for the centre to fix accountability of the Delhi Police as reported by NDTV News. She also condemned the law-and-order situation of the national capital and said that this was the second horrific incident, first one was the Dabri Extension case wherein a woman was shot by a man, and then he killed himself.
The incident raises questions of law and order in the national capital as the murder took place in broad daylight inside a park at the heart of the capital’s one of the poshest areas. According to the Hindustan Times, Swati Mahiwal stated, “Two incidents took place today- a girl was shot in Dabri and the second incident took place near Aurobindo College where another woman was beaten to death by an iron rod. I appeal to the Central govt to call a meeting regarding the safety of women in Delhi. DCW is taking cognizance of these incidents and we are issuing notices for the same.”
