Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, professionally known as Akshay Kumar has given several hits in Hindi cinema. The actor has been praised for his flourishing career. Since the theatres reopened in 2021, it seems that the actor has gone through a tough phase as all his releases had a downfall with back-to-back failures. His recently released movie ‘Selfiee’ had a shockingly poor opening. Earning Rs 2.55 crore on the first day of the release, the film couldn’t impress the audience. The second day has not shown any growth with estimates of Rs 3.25- Rs 3.50 crores on Saturday.
“Selfiee” is a remake of the Malayalam movie “Driving Licence” directed by Jean Paul Lal. The second-day earning of Selfiee shows that the audience wants to see original movies now and is not attracted to remakes anymore. A section of netizens says that the movie failed to copy the effect of the original Malayalam film while copying it. Netizens demand to see original content from Bollywood and not to add remakes to the already existing ocean of remakes.
While talking about the failure of the box office with Aaj Tak’s Seedhi Baat, Akshay Kumar admitted that it’s his fault that the film is not working. The actor said, “This thing has not happened to me for the first time. There was a time when my 16 films did not work one after the other. Another time, eight of my films did not work. Even now, 3-4 recent films have not worked too. The thing is it is your fault that a film is not working. The audience has changed and you have to change too and rework.”
“You have to dismantle and start creating yourself again because the audience requires to see something else. It is a great alarm button when 3-4 of your films flop that it is time to change. That am doing, I am trying.” he added.
During the interaction, he furthermore wanted to tell people to stop blaming anyone, not the audience or anyone else, the blame is on him. He added to the conversation, “This is my fault, 100%. Your film not working is not because of the audience or any other thing. It is because you have not given the right ingredients in your film. You have to change as I said.”
The actor got emotional while he was talking about his family and how things have changed in his life after he lost his mother. There are a lot of trade experts expressing their views on the film’s failure. Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst shared his views on the movie.
