Alia Bhatt made India proud by debuting at the Met Gala 2023. She was the most anticipated attendee for the night. The world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion event has finally came into being on Monday night (Tuesday IST). And the theme that the attendees celebrated at the Met today is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ which had dresses inspired from the famous designers legendary and renowned works.
She debuted at the red carpet embellished by Prabal Gurung who is a Nepalese–American fashion designer based in New York City. The muse for her look was Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic Chanel bridal collection 1992 which was modelled by Claudia Schiffer. Alia’s outfit caught everyone’s eye for its lengthy train, corseted finish, and spotless white colour. Alia’s white ball gown has a floor-sweeping train at the back, a wide plunging U neckline and back, a corseted bodice, a waistline that defines her lean frame, and a tiered tulle skirt.
She shared her look on her Instagram. Her dress for the night had 10,000 pearls nested in itself. This look was also a nod to Choup-Ed. Choupette was Karl Lagerfeld’s cat and Edward is the name Alia Bhatt’s cat.

I have always been fascinated by the iconic Chanel brides. Season after season, the genius of Karl Lagerfeld shone through in the most innovative and awe-inspiring couture. My look tonight was inspired from this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look.
I wanted to do something that felt authentic (hello, pearls!) and proudly made in India. The embroidery, made with a 100,000 pearls is a labour of love by @prabalgurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met.
A girl can never have too many pearls… and the right accessories to complement the look which in our case translated to the bow of pearls on my hair.

Matching pearl and diamond earrings
She married her gown with matching pearl and diamond earrings. And the “right accessories to complement the look” included a bow made of pearls on her hair. On her hand, she wore gloves which harmonized her dress and also some diamond rings.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Bridal Collection 1992 not only inspired Alia for her look but also English and Albanian singer and songwriter Dua Lipa. She wore a direct recreation of the original dress wore by Claudia Schiffer.
