Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari was today convicted by a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi in a 32 year old murder case. On August 3, 1991, Congress leader and brother of former MLA Ajay Rai, was shot dead outside Ajay Rai’s house in Varanasi. Mukhtar Ansari is already serving a 10-year jail term in another kidnapping and murder case. He was convicted in April. Ansari had been convicted in several crime cases in past. Earlier in April, a Ghazipur court convicted Ansari and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment in an Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti social activities Act case lodged at Mohammadabad in Ghazipur district in 2007.
The quantum of sentence wil be announced at 2pm. Security has been tightened at court premises and sensitive areas of the city.
In the Awadesh Rai’s murder case Ajay Rai had named Mukhtar Ansari, Bhim Singh and former MLA Abdul Kailm, in the FIR.
On May 17, a Ghazipur MP/MLA court acquitted Mukhtar Ansari accused in a case of conspiracy of a murder attempt in Uttar Pradesh’s Mohammadabad area in the District.
