Iconic filmmaker Yash Chopra’s wife, Pamela Chopra passed away at the age of 74. Her demise took place this morning, April 20. According to reports, she was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital for the past 15 days and was shifted to a ventilator when her condition deteriorated. She passed away reportedly due to an age-related illness.
Yash Raj Films, the production house owned by Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra, sons of Pamela Chopra and Yash Chopra issued a statement regarding the demise.
The statement reads as follows:
” With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform you that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection”
According to Wikipedia, Pamela Chopra was a writer, singer, dress designer, and co-producer at Yash Raj Films.
She has sung several film songs, all of them for her husband’s films, from Kabhie Kabhie (1976) to Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002). She independently produced the film Aaina (1993). Pamela co-wrote the script of her husband’s 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai. She has appeared on screen on one single occasion: in the opening song “Ek Duje Ke Vaaste” of the film Dil To Pagal Hai. As a schoolgirl, Pamela had learned Bharatanatyam, but she has never performed in public. She recently appeared in a Netflix Documentary series, The Romantics where the spoke about her husband’s journey in cinema.
