The remarkable Sachin Tendulkar is recognized for his noteworthy accomplishments in the history of Indian Cricket. To honor the former cricket player, a life-size statue of the player will be installed inside the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A decade after his retirement, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Amol Kale disclosed the decision on Tuesday as a token of appreciation to the cricketer.
The celebrated Wankhede Stadium is the venue where Sachin Tendulkar played his ultimate game for India. As per reports, the statue will be unveiled on April 23, a special day for the luminary as he will be celebrating his 50th birthday. It is also said that the statue might be put in the stadium later this year if delayed due to unavoidable circumstances.
The legendary player Sachin Tendulkar expressed his feeling and stated the appreciation was a pleasant surprise. “This decision is a pleasant surprise for me, 1988, when it all started at the Wankhede. The journey started here for me. Played my first Ranji match here. Long ago, Achrekar sir reprimanded me here and from thereon I became a serious cricketer. I played my last match at this very venue. Life has come full circle for me here. I have wonderful memories of this place, some memorable and some not-so-good. It’s a big moment for me,” Sachin said.
Sachin also talked about how his life has come a full circle for him at Wankhede stadium which has witnessed some very special moments as it was where it all began. He is grateful to the MCA for honoring him with the statue. He described how his journey is filled with unbelievable memories and the best moment of his cricketing career came when they won the World Cup in 2011.
On Tuesday, Sachin and his wife, Anjali Tendulkar visited the Wankhede Stadium to finalize the statue’s location. He said, “Well, we had a look around and the location that we have identified is right in front of the clubhouse. We are gonna create a roundabout there. The whole idea was to whoever comes to watch the game or in time to come, they are gonna leave it for people to come and have a look at the statue. Accessibility is important and we felt that spot is right. Very good energy there.”
Only three different statues of the former Indian Captain Colonel CK Nayudu have been placed till now. They are located at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) stadium in Nagpur, and the VDCA stadium in Andhra.
