In a significant development for the people of Vasai-Virar, a visionary leader, Mr. Niranjan Pal, Vice President of the BJP, embarked on a mission to transform Virar Railway Station into a modern and spacious transportation hub. After years of hard work, Mr. Pal’s dream has become a reality, as the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has awarded the tender for the construction of Virar Railway Station. This ambitious project aims to enhance the comfort and convenience of commuters, catering to the needs of the growing population of Vasai-Virar.
Expansion and Amenities
The construction plan for Virar Railway Station is short of impressive. The station building, spanning an area of approximately 4500 square meters, will be expanded to accommodate a range of offices and passenger amenities. The new facilities will include booking offices, Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS), Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) counters, lifts (4 nos.), escalators (5 nos.), and staircases (3 nos.). Additionally, provisions will be made for specialized amenities such as a Baby Feeding Room, VIP Room, and various other offices to serve station management, security personnel, and other administrative functions.
Structural Changes
To make way for the new development, certain structures will be dismantled or relocated. These include the existing Booking Office, Passenger Reservation System, parking areas, skywalk connection to the main Foot Overbridge (FOB), escalators at the north of Platforms 3/4, high mast light towers, fast food stalls, juice corners, and various offices such as GRP, RPF, and ASC. The revamp also involves the removal of gangman huts and the overhead tank, as well as the reconfiguration of staff parking facilities.
Contractor and Timeline
The responsibility of executing this transformative project has been entrusted to M/s. Saidutt-Manisha (JV), a reputed construction company. Work on the station is scheduled to commence on November 16, 2022, and the estimated completion period is 36 months, indicating that the grand unveiling of the new and improved Virar Railway Station is expected within two years.

The overwhelming population of around 40 lakh, comprising predominantly of North Indians, further accentuated the need for improved transportation infrastructure.
