The Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) crime branch arrested a local doctor and the accused’s uncle on Monday for allegedly aiding in the cover-up and covert burial of the body, one day after apprehending a 32-year-old man and his father for the savage murder of a retired high court lawyer in Vasai.
After her stepson Imran Khusro allegedly banged her head against a bathroom wall for refusing to give him ₹1.8 lakh to play an online game, the victim, Arshiya Khusro, who was 61 years old, was proclaimed dead of “natural causes” a few hours later. The murder, according to the authorities, was not simply cold-blooded; it was calculated, involving four guys, a bogus death certificate, and a hush-hush burial that was carried out before daylight.
According to Nemnath Ghogre, the assistant commissioner of police (Vasai), the four individuals accused of the crime and the subsequent cover-up—Imran, his father Amir Khusro, 64, uncle Salim Khusro, and Dr. R. R. Garg—have been apprehended. On Tuesday, they were brought before a local court and subsequently remanded to police detention for a period of seven days.
Investigators say that the incident happened on Sunday night at 10 p.m. when Imran went to Arshiya’s house in Vasai West and asked for the money. He supposedly got into a heated confrontation with her when she said no, then smacked her head against the edge of a washbasin. Police added that while she was bleeding on the floor, Imran broke into her cupboard and grabbed her gold bangles and a necklace, which weighed two tolas.
Then he contacted his father, Amir, who came to help mop up the blood. Later, they called Imran’s uncle Salim. Dr. Garg consented to give Salim, who lived in Evershine City in Vasai East, a fake death certificate saying that Arshiya had died of natural circumstances.
Just a few hours later, the crime started to fall apart. Arshiya’s housekeeper came to work on Monday morning and saw blood stains inside the house that looked strange. She called the Vasai police when she found out her boss was missing.
A team from the crime branch was promptly put together. Both Imran and Amir were captured within 12 hours. The authorities found Salim and Dr. Garg after questioning them and took them into custody.
Ghogre, the ACP, claimed that the probe is still going on. “We are still trying to figure out the exact order of events. We are checking to see if the murder is an isolated case or part of a bigger pattern. Dr. Garg’s clinic has been closed. He continued, “We are also trying to get back the gold jewelry that Imran stole from the house.”
To determine what they knew, the police are currently questioning those individuals who were present at Arshiya’s burial. Officers are also investigating whether or not Imran had a previous altercation with his stepmother or made demands for financial assistance that were comparable.
