South Indian films have done well in the Hindi language market. Especially recent works like Pushpa, RRR and KGF Chapter 2 have been blockbusters in North India. Not only that, Southern Industries has produced a tremendous number of wonderful movies in the past. Bollywood often adapts the stories of these films to make them Hindi remakes. So, here is a compiled list of upcoming Bollywood movies that are remakes of South Indian films.
Master is an action film from India about a professor, JD, who is sent to teach at a juvenile reform school for three months. He conflicts with an unethical man, Bhavani, who controls the school’s young inmates to cover up his criminal movements. As per the sources Shine India and Murad Khetani obtained the rights to remake, and Salman Khan is in talks to play the lead role in the movie.
- Driving Licence
The story is about a famous actor who needs to renew his driving licence, and the motor vehicle agent is a big fan of his, but a series of misinterpretations causes a great deal of conflict between the fan and the star. Its Hindi remake titled ‘Selfiee’ stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in pivotal roles. Raj Mehta is directing the project. The movie releases on Feb 24, 2023.
On a night when the entire police standoff, a paroled man helps the cops meet his daughter for the first time. How he helped the department shape the story of this action-packed artist. Its Hindi remake, Bholaa starring Ajay Devgan, will be released in theatres on March 30, 2023.
The story rotates around a flyover in the city which becomes the hotbed of accidents, and a young reporter decides to scrutinize the issue. Her impulse for an answer leads her into a web of conspiracy, murder and mystery. In 2021, Ekta Kapoor announced the Hindi remake of this thrilling movie. Alaya F will be playing the role of a journalist in the movie.
- Soorarai Pottru
The movie is inspired by the book ‘Simply Fly’, which tells the story of Nedumaaran Rajangam, the son of a teacher, who sets out to make the ordinary man fly and takes on the most capital-intensive industry in the world with the help of his friends and family. The director of the original movie Sudha Kongara is heading the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru tentatively titled Udaan. It stars Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan, with Paresh Rawal reprising his role.
A mindblowing movie which shows a murder of a youngster and creates confusion among cops when they discover the suspect has a lookalike. Its Hindi remake titled Gumraah will star Aditya Roy Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur and will be released on April 7, 2023.
The story revolves around a man named Ramanujam, who is suffering from multiple personality disorder, he works as a lawyer by day and a vigilante at night. He uses tips from the ‘Garuda Purana’ as his tools to expose various antisocial elements. According to sources Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and director S. Shankar are teaming up for the Hindi-language remake.
- The Great Indian Kitchen
The story is about a woman who struggles to be the submissive wife that her husband and his family expect her to be. It follows her journey of how she changes herself. Harman Baweja will produce the Hindi remake which will be helmed by Arati Kadav. Dangal star Sanya Malhotra has been roped in to play the lead role.
The story is about undertrial prisoners who languish in jails while awaiting judgement, the movie follows Surya Prakash who gets caught in a similar situation while being on trial for the murder of a powerful man. Dil Raju has bought the rights to produce its Hindi remake. Ajay Devgan will be appearing in the lead role.
The film is about an ordinary suburban girl who suddenly disappears, leaving her loved ones in a desperate search as she must face the ultimate battle. Its Hindi remake titled Mili stars Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, and Sunny Kaushal.
A comedy movie which shows how a youngster in his mid-30s goes through a series of struggles after coming to terms with the fact that he was in a coma for 16 years. Boney Kapoor has announced a Hindi remake with Arjun Kapoor in the lead role.
The story is about an honest man named Vinayagam, who uses violence to settle disputes. Hell breaks loose when he learns about a gang of rowdies following his lover’s family. Salman Khan’s upcoming action-comedy titled ‘Kisika Bhai, Kisiki Jaan’ is an official remake of the 2014 Tamil film Veeram. Directed by Farhad Samji, the movie also stars Venkatesh, Pooja Hegde, Jagapathi Babu, Jassie Gill, Bhumika Chawla and more. It releases on April 21, 2023.
